There are experiences you attend…
and then there are experiences that stay with you.
The Way of the Whale is one of them.
Created by acclaimed choreographer and dancer (and our neighbor!) Martita Goshen and her company, Earthworks, this immersive work weaves together art, environmental awareness, and human connection into a singular, unforgettable experience.
At its core, this is a deep and reverent conversation with the natural world—guided by the intelligence, memory, and quiet power of whales. But this is not just a story about whales.
It’s a reflection of us.
Through decades of artistic exploration and advocacy, Martita has developed a language of movement that doesn’t just depict nature—it reveals it as a teacher. In the world of whales, we see what it means to belong to one another… to move in rhythm, to communicate across distance, to protect and support the pod as a whole.
As the performance unfolds, the stage becomes a living ocean.
Choreography moves like current.
Gestures echo like song carried across distance.
And the audience is no longer simply watching—but participating in a shared emotional and ecological landscape.
Here, whales are not distant or abstract.
They become mirrors—inviting us to consider how we show up for one another, how we listen, how we hold space, and how we move through difference.
In a time when so many forces pull us apart, this work gently asks something deeper of us: What if we remembered how to move together? What if we let go of the barriers that keep us separate—and chose connection instead?
With barefoot reverence and striking physicality, the dancers of Earthworks conjure a world that feels at once ancient and immediate… fragile and enduring.
This is not simply a performance.
It’s an awakening.
A quiet reckoning.
A celebration of our connection to the Earth—and to each other.
A reminder that community is not automatic—it is something we choose, something we practice, something we are responsible for.
LYNPs THE LISTENING PROJECT: THE WAY OF THE WHALE
We spend a lot of time thinking about human etiquette—but have you ever considered that whales have their own version of it?
Within their pods, whales communicate across vast distances, care for one another, share responsibility for the group, and pass knowledge from one generation to the next. Their communities are built on connection, cooperation, and belonging. What might these ancient beings have to teach us about our own neighborhoods, relationships, and shared responsibility to one another?
Join acclaimed choreographer and environmental artist Martita Goshen for a unique experience of movement, meditation, and sound healing inspired by the remarkable social lives of whales. Rooted in the mission of Love Your Neighbor Project's Listening Project, this workshop invites participants to explore how we can cultivate deeper understanding, empathy, and connection within our communities.
Move with us. Meditate with us. Experience the healing power of sound as we examine whale behaviors through movement and discover what life in a pod can teach us about life together.
Designed as a welcoming experience for individuals, friends, and families, this workshop offers a meaningful opportunity for multiple generations to learn, reflect, and connect side-by-side.
All ages are welcome. No experience necessary. Children attend free with a registered adult. Attend on its own or as a companion experience to The Way of the Whale performance.
Space is limited to preserve the intimacy of the experience. Proceeds will be donated to the Animal Welfare Institute.
